I’m a big fan of positive and constructive enforcement. Particularly if I ever get bogged down or at less happy times in life, one of the easiest, best ways that I like to keep positive is to watch happy movies, that have wisdom, inspiration, and positive messages. I also love books that do the same; but movies are sometimes a quick and easy answer.
Sometimes I’ll watch the same few movies, a few days in a row. But I’d love to find some new ones. I’m not trying to be comprehensive; but these are some of the first and best that come to mind. Please respond with any I’m not thinking of or that you recommend we check out.
I expect anyone that reads this has probably seen Groundhog Day. I saw somewhere that it was ranked as the greatest modern comedy. It’s amusing, fun, and has very important messages about making the most of every day, improving yourself and the world around you, finding your purpose and place, and so much more. The wisdom and inspiration is amazing.
Joe vs the Volcano
Another fun movie with wisdom and inspiration, this one also highlights finding courage in a smart way. And it highlights the contrast between finding the worst and finding the best in your circumstances. It’s full of irony. And if you watch it a few times, you might catch new details.
The Count of Monte Cristo
Of course, Dantes’ great story is about perseverance, redemption, improvement, opportunity, and ultimately even the liberating power of forgiveness. My favorite version, by far, is the 2002 edition, starring Jim Caviezel.
The Shawshank Redemption
I just feel better after watching this movie. There’s some wisdom and cleverness. And this is one of my all time favorite inspiring stories of perseverance.
The Secret of My Success
I know this movie doesn’t take itself seriously. But it’s fun and uplifting. It makes fun of corporate life in an instructive way, gives an almost-too-light perspective on taking risk, and has a great, happy ending.
I like sports movies, like the Rocky series, the Karate Kid movies, and so many others where the protagonist works hard to catchy songs. I just like the idea of self-improvement, taking on challenges, and winning. And for some reason, this is the best of those movies for me, as I love the first half of the movie, where Batman becomes a hero.
Facing the Giants
Of the sports movies, where a team comes together, works hard, and overcomes challengs, this is my all-time favorite. Hard work, leadership, individuals overcoming personal insecurities to become a team, inspiration, and much more..
I wanted to have some suggestions that some of you may not have seen before. This is one of my all-time favorite movies. Of course, it’s quirky. It is very cynical, making fun of society, biases, people, and many things that people hold sacred. But mixed in is a lot of wisdom. And hidden under the satire, there are some lessons about positive belief and even the ostensible power of not knowing any better.
I also love movies that just make me laugh and leave me happy. The best for that are Old School, There’s Something About Mary, and Back to School.
These are among the first that come to mind. Please chime in with any I’m forgetting. And happy movie watching!
